I of the Storm as an idea/concept came to me through my experience within the care sector as a Registered Nurse and Registered Manager for 25+ years.
I learnt that the role involved a constant struggle with managing the demands from regulating bodies, commissioning bodies and internal politics all whilst working towards the delivery of quality care.
It was an ongoing struggle trying to satisfy the demands of these differing bodies. Each of which had their own peculiar oversight and requirements. Whilst maintaining both a positive team and culture.
I realised that any service directed at supporting key staff in this field had to be independent. Focused on the individual rather than coming from a need to influence/monitor/assess for either the business or other interested authorities.
Essentially the person being supported needs to know that the service being provided is not influenced by outside authorities including their own management structure by thought, action or opinion. That the help being given is non- judgemental, unconstrained and unconnected. Yet delivered within the parameters of an ethical framework. The aim being to provide a safe space for reflection.

Those looking at using IOTS need to be reassured that this assistance is coming from a place external to their normal workspace/arena- as above not from within
with own expectations, required outcomes etc but with the aim of focusing on the individual and their particular needs. That is IOTS by being and acting outside the boundaries of the parent company or organisation can be free thinking in its support.

Having worked within the care sector for over 25 years, over 20 as a registered manager for a nursing home I have a good understanding of the pressures both
internal and external affecting the industry. As an associate of My Home Life Essex( 2010->) quality care and a positive relationship centred culture have been and continue to be integral to my practice. I often state and continue to believe that two of my enduring passions are ‘people and quality( care)’. These help dictate my actions both at home and within the wider community. Throughout my career I have been privileged to build strong relationships and partnerships with those involved in our sector both as commissioners and strategists. I have always worked hard at remaining involved and present, and taken opportunities to further knowledge, experience and inter disciplinary working relationships.
Therefore as a RGN with a code of conduct, being an expert by experience, having worked within the sector at a senior level for a considerable time- I believe that ‘Trust’ can be assured, that those utilising the service can be confident and reliant on my integrity and ability to offer hope and support.

When I decided to jump from a full time registered managers role and all that that entailed into a role that I knew was needed but not yet necessarily a recognised
thing it was because of those twin passions ‘of people and quality care.’
How could we promote, maintain and sustain quality care and a positive culture if we couldn’t do the same for those whose role was to deliver that care and build that culture.
IOTS - or myself aims to deliver that support to the whole sector one person at a time whether director, manager or other by utilising a variety of skills such as active listening , observation, impartiality and conversation to highlight good PRACTICE, to FOCUS, ENCOURAGE and ENGAGE with the individual or manager to look at available tools and strategies to evidence their successes and stories.
The support being to enable the individual to endure and withstand the pressures of their roles, so as to relieve any fatigue and potential burn out.
